Learned From the Best but Internet Marketing Isn’t Working?
Posted on Apr 06, 2008 under Internet Business | No CommentAnyone trying to make a living with Internet marketing has at least three things against them: They are working on their own, they are being bombarded with new products all the time, and they will find it very tempting to jump from one money making plan to another. How does one ever succeed online?Discipline Yourself
Anyone who is their own boss has to be very self-disciplined. There is no one telling you to get up and get to work. No one (unless it is your spouse) is going to tell you to get off the phone or away from the TV and do something that will make money.
You are on your own, all the time. It is completely up to you whether you spend one hour a day being productive or eight hours. That is why self-discipline is so important.
It’s very easy to lose half your morning going over emails instead of getting work done. Make a list of the email lists you’re subscribed to that really matter to you and ditch the rest. If your email account gets over spammed then change it to a fresh one and only update the lists you want to remain on and your contact list. You can increase your productivity many fold by following these simple rules.
Signing up for two or three e-mail lists should be enough. Limit it to the experts you really want to hear from. Or better yet, subscribe to their RSS feeds.
New Stuff is released every day and it’s all “Necessary for your Success!!” Don’t be in a panic to buy everything that comes along. Quite a lot of stuff is repeated/rehashed gear and unless you can see a REAL benefit to your business then avoid the temptation and keep your money in your pocket.
If the product is something that will help streamline your business, you might want to consider it. Does it cut down on the amount of work you have to do? Does it include leveraging your time by giving work out to other people? It might be worth the investment.
Still beware of the glowing sales-copy though. These people are very good at it. Make sure you NEED a product before you buy it. Would you buy a new screwdriver if you already had one that works ok? This is for business not fun.
Constantly Focus on Your Tasks
A proper business plan is essential to make sure you stay focused and therefore to your success and to keep distractions at bay so devote some time to making one initially then make sure that you do NOT deviate from it.
If you are doing something and blatantly it’s not going to work out, after suitable effort and application, then learn from your experience and move on to something else. It’s very important not to ditch something just because some all new and shiny program is suddenly thrust upon you. You have to be sure that what you’re working on is a dud before moving on, you don’t want to become a serial business changer.
Yes, it helps to be excited about what you are working on, but there are going to be times when everyone gets bored with what they are doing. Take a day off, if that will help, or get together with friends who are also business owners and just talk. Renew the passion you had when you started the business.
Your business plan is central to your success so never mess about with when you’re tired and feeling a little down. You need to regain your focus when this happens so take a break and re-evaluate your plan when you are fresh and focused. Your business plan may be a good one and could just possibly need a little tweak or two.
